I survived the worst month ever. For the love of everything in this entire universe please never make me go through anything like May again
How sweet is it that today was the last day of May? I hated May. May sucked. May can go away and never come back. I got woken up by my obnoxiously loud house phone at 10:40 and left an hour later to get dim sum with Sam and Riley. We met at Sam’s house then I took us to A&W down the street. We got shiu mai, har gow, TWO types of pork buns, egg rolls, and rice noodles, and it was only 6 dollars per person! I suggested we swim so we went to Sam’s mom’s house, where I hadn’t been in years since they turned Sam’s room into an office or something. The pool was so cold but we eventually made it in bit by bit. I don’t know how it happened really, but we wound up getting out after 20 minutes and driving to Riley’s to swim in his pool instead, because it has an attached jacuzzi. Sam and I took my car and just drove the way to Riley’s in Hollywood in bathing suits while blasting the Beach Boys. #summer. Riley’s backyard is so perfect for summer. His pool looks like its in an Italian villa or some shit. We switched back and forth from pool to hot tub, then just stayed in the hot tub for 2 hours. So. Beautiful. Carly came and hung out for a bit then I left to shower while they went to get snacks at Carly’s. Getting home was a nightmare. It took 45 minutes even though it’s only like 7 miles away. Some strip of Hollywood Blvd was closed and instead of going west to take the canyon like any idiot would have I went east and got fucked. It forced me to go south even though I live North and I kept getting caught at every bad intersection ever and trying to take every back way I knew of, which was probably better than just staying at the intersections but god damn. I got home at ten to 6 and showered away the chlorine. I met Sam and Riley at the NH station and Riley drove us to Juicy Burger, which I was trying for the 2nd time. Definitely good, but not Umami. Just cheaper, I guess. Riley drove us to a subway station and Sam and I went to Xtreme Desserts once we got back to my car. The name makes me laugh because what the fuck does that even mean? We split a red velvet/white chocolate mousse parfait thing which was really good AND TOTALLY XTREME before heading to Rosie’s. They had plans to watch the X Files and since Sam has no car I drove him there and hung out for 30 minutes before heading home. I got back a bit before 10. Super early, but I’m driving up to Berkeley in the morn’. It’s been nothing but internet since and will probably continue to be that way until I go to sleep. It’s 11:30
Three weeks home today! Woo. So I don’t know if it was the weird dreams or the alcohol but I woke up at 5 am, 7 am, and 9:30 am then finally gave up at 10:30. The hangover wasn’t too bad at least. At 2:30 I finally made a bagel with cheese melted on it. SO complicated, I know, but it took 2 hours to get off my ass and actually made food. After that I showered and enrolled in the UCLA class for summer. At 4 I left to go to the Northridge mall to meet Angela, Susy, and Melissa (hadn’t seen her in a while). Traffic sucked but there was a farmer’s market with goats and cute animals in the parking lot so it was worth it. We walked around the mall chatting and explored the farmer’s market then went back to Angela’s and played Mario Party 8 on Wii for a while. We were going to go out to eat but apparently her parents got us pizza, so that was nice. We sat at the table talking for a long time then realized we never finished Mario Party, so before leaving to meet others we played the last 4 turns. I drove us to the absolutely massive strip mall at the bottom of Angela’s hill. It spans an entire mile. Dylan met us at the Japanese restaurant and I finally got to try that stupid sushi Toro that I hear is so good. It was good but so expensive considering I don’t know much about sushi. Sam and Riley met us there and then Sam was like LETS WALK TO BEST BUY and I didn’t think much of it. I should have though because it was literally on the other end of the plaza, practically a mile away, and when we got there it was closed. When we were walking back to the other end Amanda showed up so we went to In n Out, also in the plaza. She was the only one who got anything so we just stayed talking in there until it closed at 11. After some mad parking lot loitering we split up, I took Sam home, and got home at 11:40ish. It’s 12:10, I’ll probz stay up for a while longer
Day 20, damn. How has it already been 20 days?! I woke up at 11:40 after a very weird nightmare that involved dying in some sort of space simulator or something. I showered and spent the next 45 minutes cleaning my room before Maya came over. We went to CPK and sat talking for a long time while waiting for Rio to show up after an advising appointment. We got avocado club rolls to split and I got a kids mushroom goat cheese pizza. With all the waiting and such we were there for like an hour and a half, so there was catch-up time. I got home at 3ish. I got very caught up in internet happenings until dinner. My mom made teriyaki chicken skewer things, rice, caprese salad, and some zuchinni that apparently my uncle grew…because apparently he has a vegetable garden I didn’t know existed. Rio came over at 9:30ish and I took a few big swigs of my Sailor Jerry’s before we went to The Fifth, my new fav spot. It’s only a mile from my house and even though it’s just a dive bar it was such a surprisingly wonderful experience. Rio asked the bartender how to become a bar tender, and he basically just spent the next 30 minutes showing us how to do bar shit, like lingo and experience etc. I got two shots at the bar and played Interstate Love Song (of course) and two Police songs on the juke box. The best part was talking to this dude who went to my brother’s high school and I don’t know his name but he was born in 1973. We talked for a long fucking time about relationships and moving on and Cal and jobs and basically everything. He was there with his girlfriend, who talked to Rio while I was talking to him and apparently hooked Rio up with connections for a job. We left pretty early, at 12:30, with really good vibes n shit but I was too drunk to just be home, so Dylan Sog and Carly swooped me up a few minutes later after some concert in Echo Park. We went to Crave and Carly and I split a caprese panini. This hipster-ghetto (you know what I mean though, right?) came up to our table and was like “Hey Leah still play clarinet?” I recognized him after a few seconds but WHAT THE FUCK IS THE VALLEY. 1 am and some rando I haven’t seen since 8th grade comes up to me. Dylan dropped me back at 1:45ish. So tired
Me: Hi Tess, I’m just calling to see if you’re still subletting my room. it seems we’ve had trouble getting in contact with you
Tess: Oh my gosh!!!111 I’m actually not subletting from you anymore sorry for the confusement!
Today I woke up at 10:45, a bit earlier than I wanted to. I had the usual dreams, hopefully they stop soon. Sam asked me at 11 if I wanted to get Dim Sum, but I didn’t want to drive 20 minutes if he was going to leave me right after to go look at apartments with Simon, so I convinced him to eat with me around here at 12…at Nat’s…even though I was there yesterday. However, the wait was too long so we went to Vivian’s, the place I tried with Caroline two weeks ago. I got eggs, pancakes, and bacon and he got a scramble. He left to catch a train downtown at 1:15 and I came home. By 2:30ish I had been talking to Simon’s friend Alison and started to get super mopey so I went to Rosie’s at 3. It was nice, we hung out while she unpacked and took care of some other stuff. At one point we played ping pong outside in the shade for a while. I stayed for dinner, so hooray for free food. Her dad bbq’d brisket and also served beans and salad. After dinner we hung out in Rosie’s room for a while waiting for Sharlene to arrive. Fritz got there a bit after that and we took two cars to Justin’s who lives so unfairly far. We sat on his deck that overlooks the whole stupid valley waiting for the others to arrive. Esteban came next, then Angela. The 6 of us got in the jacuzzi then Susy and Dylan Sog joined. I love jacuzzis. We were in it for about two hours then got out to get food. Most of us stayed inside the house but Sharlene, Dylan, and Esteban went to Carls Jr. They came back with food for us, I got a buttermilk ranch chicken sammich. Sam joined at 11 something. We sat in some den part of Justin’s hangin’ until we started sort of falling asleep. Half the group left, then as I was walking towards the door I noticed it was wide open, which was weird because I know I saw Esteban close the door behind him, so it must have bounced back. Panic ensued because Justin has 5 cats and a dog and lives in the hills with coyotes. We left as he and his mom frantically checked cat inventory. I drove Fritz and Sharlene back to their cars then somehow made it home, I was probz too tired to drive. It’s 1:30.
I woke up at 8:30 and then a million more times in the next two hours from anxiety and a series of nightmares and stomach aches. I decided to stay up for good at 10:40. I kicked Sam out at 11:45 and was about to leave but Eli texted me “if you haven’t left yet, don’t” because he hadn’t even left his house fucking 20 minutes away yet. So much for brunch at 11:45. It’s okay though, still nice to see Eli. We met at Nat’s, I got a grilled cheese and he got a Cajun chicken sammich. I got home at ten after 1 and Frankie picked me up for the beach. We got Monika, stopped quickly at Panera, then tried to find the least crowded strip of beach. The water was freezing so I didn’t go in at all, but they did for a little bit. It was nice, just lyin’ on the sand n shit for a few hours. It was windy but still felt nice. There was a guy with a huge Reptar tattoo on his arm. When it started to get colder we left. The best part of the beach is the post-beach shower. I had some chicken pot pie and dark chocolate while moping then Brianna and her two friends came over at 7. I drove us to the Hollywood Forever Cemetery at Santa Monica and Gower. That cemetery screens movies and tonight was Grease. Cemeteries are weird. Especially ones with above-ground coffins. The whole place was pretty much full so we made camp on the pavement but it was still chill. About an hour and a half into the movie Dillon, Grig, and their insane friend Seth (stories to come) showed up. Once it ended we met them minus Dillon at Swinger’s. I got turkey chili. But this kid Seth. He kept making philosophical conversations out of everything. For example, Bri used the word “precise” and he started this whole conversation about precise being binary and how there is no gradient. It got pretty heated. Then at one point out of nowhere he was like “I can’t believe there are some people who just don’t have questions. You tell them to say any question, and they just can’t say anything”. So basically the whole outing was us laughing at/with(maybe?) him, so it was awesome. We decided to split instead of doing a bar so I drove us back over the canyon. It’s 1.
Today I woke up at 11 to my alarm, exhausted. I stayed in bed until 11:50, when Dylan Sognalian and Angela knocked on my door. We met Kouros at Umami at 12:10 and oh my god I couldn’t even finish my burger I was so full. Dylan and Kouros got the “breakfast burger” which had a fried egg on it. Kouros split off after and Dylan, Angela and I went to Bev Mo then back to Dylan’s. We took an awesome scenic route south of Ventura back to his place. We started drinking while playing D.Child at 2:30ish. After hanging in his room for a while Alex Kavutskiy came over and we played lots of Rock Band. I was on vocals, it was really fun but also weird being drunk with his grandma and mom helping us set up the game. Rosie picked me up at 6:30 and we got Mexican food at Van Nuys. We met Sam back at my place and hung around talking for a while then Esteban joined. I sobered up at 8:30 and Esteban, Rosie, and Sam left for Bev Mo and I stayed at my house. Sharlene came over then the others returned with Kouros. We drank, music-ed, talked, whatever. Call Me Maybe was everywhere. As was Now Thats What I Call Music 6. It’s honestly a blur because once Carly and Fritz got there and I thought I “wasn’t feeling it at all” everything hit me like a truck. Sam passed out at one point then they all left one by one and eventually were all gone by 1. It’s some time and I’m fucked up and kind of sad. Goodnight?
I woke up at 12 to my alarm after going to sleep at 2. Score, 10 hours. Dreams though, leave me alone. Real life also needs to leave me alone. Found out two of my friends are skipping the dinner part of the big fat plan I put together two days ago to go to Simon’s, after SImon was the one that said no one should blow either of us off for the other. Then everything else about it was seeming to go downhill too. What a great way to start the day! Darya came over at 1:30 and we got In n Out then hung back at my place, reading the ol’ humiliating lj and things of the like. She had to leave at 3 to go clean her house or something like that so I uploaded pictures from my cruise amongst other things. I videochatted with my cousin Alec for a bit and finally at 5 left the fucking house to go meet Kouros. I parked at his place and we just killed hella time by walking down to Ventura then up and down the big blocks, probably like a mile, while talking and occasionally going in places. We sat in Coffee Fix for a bit then went to Carly’s at 7. Esteban met us there at 7:30 and the 4 of us went to Zankou Chicken for dinner, a Mediterranean -ish place. It was good and hella cheap. Sam and Fritz met us at Rite Aid and then we hung out at Carly’s. Justin came and we listened to Merriweather Post Pavilion until Shawn got there at 9:40, when we left. We got to Los Feliz, eventually found parking, then sat in Bourgeoise Pig, one of the coolest looking cafes ever, to kill a bit more time. We stood in line for 45 minutes (to get seats for 8 people together) then went in at 11. The show was really funny, though a little less organized than last week’s. We went back to Carly’s after at 12:30 because everyone was parked there then stood outside debating what to do. Most people left, but Fritz, Sam, Justin, and myself went to Crave so the first two could get food. I just got home, it’s 1:30.
